Facebook's F8 app hints at big changes for Messenger

Typical. Just when you're about to unveil a new project at your own developer conference, the event's companion app breaks the news ahead of time. That's the problem that'll greet Mark Zuckerberg this morning when he finds out that the F8 conference has been blown, thanks to Facebook's F8 app. A notification, presumably scheduled for tomorrow, went out early, informing attendees that the company was announcing two new initiatives: Parse for IoT and Messenger as a Platform.

For those not in the know, Parse is the company's app-building division that it purchased back in 2013, and it seems clear that we'll now see an offering being made for internet of things devices. Presumably we'll see smart ovens that can notify you (and your friends) when your pizza rolls are done.

If you wanted to jump to a similar conclusion regarding Messenger as a Platform, it looks as if Facebook wants to get its homegrown messenger available in more places than just its own site. The app also mentions that the conference's Teleportation Station is now open, which we assume is a fancy Silicon Valley way of saying "coffee area." Since F8 kicks-off tomorrow it won't be long before we get some sort of confirmation -- but we'll keep an ear out for any panicked screaming coming from Chateau Zuckerberg this morning.
